Nadia Dean is the author of the critically-acclaimed historical narrative A Demand of Blood: The Cherokee War of 1776. Based on the book she wrote and directed the docudrama Cameron and composed the film’s musical score. For the Museum of the Cherokee, she produced a documentary about Cherokee diplomacy in 1777, funded by the South Carolina Humanities Council.

Nadia studied Media Arts at the University of South Carolina. In Jerusalem, as still photographer for PBS’s film Days of Rage, her photographs were published in Time magazine, The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. Controversy that swelled around the film led Nadia to become the key source for the explosive article in The New Republic by Steven Emerson, a senior editor for US News & World Report.

In Jerusalem, Nadia interviewed Benjamin Netanyahu and Benni Begin for the D.C.-based political journal New American View (published by former CIA executive Victor Marchetti, The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence). In Washington, D.C., Nadia was daily news correspondent reporting from the White House and the State Department for Emirates Dubai Television. With credential from the U. S. Senate and House of Representatives News Galleries, Nadia produced daily news for MBC (Middle East Broadcasting) covering U.S.-Middle East foreign policy. 

 

In Murder in the Mountains, Nadia tells 19th century true crime stories from western North Carolina. Nadia is a descendant of 18th century mountain settlers and is currently at work on two books and a teleplay about western North Carolina’s wild frontier. She and her husband, an Eastern Band Cherokee, make their home in the Smoky Mountains.
